Review: Most AMD motherboards allow you to adjust the multiplier, but the processor usually comes locked. The X2 7750 Black Edition Black Edition has a factory unlocked multiplier which allows for the easiest overclocking possible. This also removes the need to use CPU/Ram dividers, although many users still apply them to fine tune their system for maximum clock speeds. Even with the stock cooler, you can adjust the multiplier or front side bus to achieve speeds beyond 3.0 Ghz before heat becomes an issue. Available for as low as $60 online, this processor is a tremendous value.

I had one of these on gigiabyte mobo, corsair 800 ddr2 sticks, vista 32 dynex 500 watt and oclocked to 3.1 and it totally fried!! i had identical setup with intel e2180 the 3rd place winner, an got 3.4 ghz easily and still runs today!! very fragile compared to intel i feel!! dont oclock it!!
As you experienced, it is an easy chip to fry if you overclock and don't upgrade your cooling. I've been running this processor for about six months now. It runs just fine when overclocked to 3.0 GHz. Any higher and it starts to become unstable. I have seen one overclocked to 3.25 GHz, but I'm in no need of that kinda power right now, so I haven't looked into how it was done.
