Apple AirPort Extreme Base Station ME918LL/A
Now in its sixth generation, the Apple AirPort Extreme now sports a clean-sheet design that looks nothing like its predecessors. It's more compact than before, despite the height gain. As to be expected from Apple, the design is more suited to being featured in plain sight than hidden away as many routers are. The functions, features, and port offerings of this sixth generation Airport Extreme are the same as before, with the only major performance difference being the added 802.11ac support. This router is easy to set up and use, especially if you're already familiar with AirPort devices. It is very fast and reliable - SmallNetBuilder's testing measured up to 119 Mbps using the 2.4 GHz band, and up to 286 Mbps in the 5 GHz band. However, it does not have a whole lot of features or anything in the way of customization - all of the setup options are strictly limited to the standard network setup interface. As such, it is best suited to less advanced users as opposed to those who want to customize settings to really get the most out of their home network. That being said, if you're willing to pay the premium price, the sixth generation Apple AirPort Extreme Base Station is a stylish, easy to use, fast, and stable router. Though there's no real reason to upgrade if you have an AirPort device already, if 802.11ac support is important to you, this is an excellent choice.
