Best Bike Helmet for Professionals

The formula is simple: the longer you're on your bike, the better you become at riding. But even the guys and gals who have been on bikes for years are still susceptible to the dangers of slippery paint-lines, tight corners, bad drivers, sewer grates, suicidal squirrels, and whatever other sorts of traps the experienced cyclist faces. Head protection on the road is the cyclist's best form of protection and could make the difference between a day in bed and a lifetime in the mausoleum.

If you're on a competitive group ride or spending a day at the races, you'll need a
helmet that not only protects, but is advantageous to your fast-paced style of riding. A helmet is best if you can hardly tell its there, and what you get for with a high-end helmet versus something standard will be better breathability, have a more streamlined and integrated design, and use a more versatile fitting system.

There is no 'best helmet,' but there are helmets that are best for you. What you can do as the conscientious buyer is try these helmets for yourself before buying. Check out your local dealers and see who is in your area that has the helmet you're looking for. Your local guys will help you from there.

Of course, homework is important too. A good helmet isn't cheap. A smart purchase is an educated purchase. And you want to buy smart, so consider the following list and see what appeals best. Soon you'll be the sharpest and sleekest looking dude or lady at the head of the peloton. Minimize

Out of all the helmet...read full review

The helmets have been tested using Giro's Wind Tunne... read full review

Why it's a best pick: You see them wearing this on the continent, and it looks almost like something out of Alien - the infamous Catlike helmet. Using the same sort of in-mold technology you find in a lot of these helmets, this helmet is sturdy as a rock and as cooling as a screen-door. It has a ... read full review

Why it's a best pick: Boasting to be the lightest helmet in the world to correspond with Consumer Product Safety Commission standards, at 225 grams, the Specialized S-Works road helmet is one of the most recognizable lids on the market. It uses a Kevlar-reinforced 'inner matrix' and the Specializ... read full review
