Best Budget Corded Drills & Drivers
Drills/Drivers with cords are considerably cheaper than the same capacity tool in a cordless version. And they should last years longer. Batteries will go bad just sitting, usually after 2-3 years, and the expense of replacing them is frequently near or exceeds the cost of a replacement tool, battery, charger kit.
These budget tools are designed for occasional use. For the person who wants a quality tool to have but does not want to worry about battery life, battery expense, and/or using the tool on a regular or heavy duty basis. These are not tools to make your living with; they are for hanging pictures, shelves, assembling furniture or the kid’s toys. They spend most of the time on a shelf or in a drawer but are always there and ready to go when you need them. Because of these considerations the largest size that any of these drills can accept is 3/8”/10mm. Another consideration with these is to make sure you use an adequate size extension cord. Not just the length but the diameter of the extension. Otherwise you could damage the tool.
The criteria for these are price, power, expressed in amps & quality construction. The features are keyless chuck, reverse direction, variable speed, built in levels and for a drill/driver the clutch. The weight and balance are factors in how long you can comfortably use one of these tools.
