            Best Budget 4-Channel Car Amplifier:

Whether you're building a complete system or not, amplifiers can drastically improve the sound quality from the speakers. However, there's no getting around the fact that a good amplifier is pricey, and in a lot of cases, can end up costing several times more than the head unit you just bought. It always seems that all of the amplifiers worth looking into are the expensive ones, and the less expensive ones do not provide the performance you want or need. That's not necessarily true, though - there are amplifiers available to you if you're on a budget, and while you may give up a few features here and there, overall performance remains high. Here are the best 4-channel amplifiers for those of you on a tight budget.

When it comes to budget amplifiers, a 2-channel design often offers more features or power than a 4-channel design simply because there is less circuitry involved. A 2-channel amplifier performs just as well as a 4-channel one for most audio systems, and unless you're planning on building a mobile audio hall, is enough to brighten your music and separate the highs, mids, and lows. Most 2-channel amplifiers can also be run in 'bridged mode', where the two outputs are combined to run a single subwoofer. If you're on a budget, here are the five stand-out selections for 2-channel amplifiers today.

                                                        Best 5-channel Car Amplifier:

As with any audio system, you will generally get better sound quality when the sound is divided into separate channels. 5-channel car amplifiers are an excellent solution if you want a single amplifier powering all of your audio equipment. Instead of relying on two amplifiers one for your regular speakers and one for your subwoofer setup, a five-channel amplifier can send ample power to your loudspeakers through 4 of its channels and enough wattage through the remaining channel to allow your subwoofer to rattle windows. Though these subwoofers may seem expensive at first glance, they represent high-value choices once you consider that the convenience of having a single amplifier (not to mention the purchase price of two different amplifiers) makes them well worth the initial cost. Here are the five best 5-channel car amplifiers overall, ranked with performance, value, and price in mind.

JL Audio HD Series HD900/5 Amplifier

The HD900/5 is one of JL Audio's flagship offerings, combining the performance of two high-end Slash v2 amplifiers into a single compact package. Maximum output is 100 watts RMS x 4 channels at 4 ohms, with 500 watts RMS through the fifth channel. As always, the HD900/5 features technologies that allow this amplifier to be as versatile as it is powerful. The HD900/5 is pricier than other 5-channel car amplifiers, but it is also one of the best available. Read Full Review

Subwoofers are power-hungry things. While normal speakers can (and will) sound loud and clear with 50 watts of power or less, a subwoofer usually requires hundreds of watts for loud and clear bass. Because of this, there are amplifiers made specifically to drive subwoofers, all of which offer high power output through a single channel. When used together with a separate amplifier to drive the speakers, the resulting sound quality can mimic a live concert hall. However, be sure that your car's alternator can handle such loads before equipping your vehicle with multiple high-power amplifiers.

This compact design puts out 600 watts RMS at either 2 ohm or 4 ohm impedance, and can be placed in a stack with other PDX-series amplifiers. Considering the high-end specifications, the price is wholly reasonable. Read Full Review

A subwoofer amplifier (also called mono amplifier) can be useful when you have a single subwoofer that you need to power. Because of how subwoofers are designed, they require massive amounts of power in comparison to other speakers. A subwoofer amplifier is designed to be a separate unit that sends the subwoofer the power it needs to play the deep bass sounds. While a budget subwoofer amplifier will generally not provide the kind of power that will annoy everyone at stop lights, it should be more than enough to bring out the bass notes that your factory speakers simply can't handle.

The MRP-M500 puts out 300 watts RMS at 4 ohms, with output rising to 500 watts RMS at 2 ohms. A high-end subwoofer needs massive amounts of power to produce the bass that they're known for. Low frequencies by design need lots of energy to produce, and a subwoofer is no different. While standard speakers are loud with 100 watts of power, a subwoofer needs several times that. Therefore, it makes sense to have a dedicated amplifier to drive a power-hungry subwoofer. For those that crave the deep, window-rattling, thumping bass that a good subwoofer can offer, here are the best high-end amplifiers designed to do just that.
