Best LCD Monitor for Gaming

(November 18, 2009)

When it comes to gaming, responsiveness and refresh rate are of paramount importance king. CRTs excelled in both of these traits, and for many hardcore gamers, they are still the only acceptable types of monitors. However, CRTs are getting long in the tooth; they are both hard to find in good condition, and have little to no replacement or support in the event that they break. Therefore, many gamers turn to LCDs, a technology that has almost bridged the CRT "performance gap" in both refresh rate and response time. Response time refers to the time it takes for a pixel to change color in response to changing images. The lower the response time, the better, otherwise you will get annoying "ghosting.” Refresh rate refers to the number of times per second a monitor is capable of changing a frame, a sort of "framerate" for monitors. Your frames-per-second in a game are limited by the refresh rate. Now there are LCD monitors that can go above the usual 60Hz refresh rat resulting in noticeably smoother gameplay.
