For 2012, Apple has thrown a curveball by releasing a new model under an old name. The 17-inch MacBook Pro has been discontinued, with no replacement planned. All models now offer USB 3.0 connectivity, and a slimmer 'MagSafe 2' connector can be found on the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro with Retina display models. Apple's current OS X release, 'Lion' (10.7), is standard on all MacBook models. OS X 10.8 'Mountain Lion' is scheduled for a summer release, and all mid-2012 models are eligible for... Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display MC976LL/A

It's hard not to get excited about a new Apple computer, but it's best to approach the MacBook Pro with Retina display with the rose-tinted glasses packed away. The ultra high resolution display and fetchingly slim design are attractive and functional, and the USB 3.0, Thunderbolt, and HDMI ports can make up for the lack of an optical drive.
