Best Saxophone Neck Strap

November 3, 2009
Saxophones are weighted differently than Bass Clarinets and Bassoons (who also use neck straps) so the Saxophone requires a certain kind of neck strap.  Now, there will be some overlapping in goodness between the Saxophone and other woodwinds, but there are a few Neck Straps that are "Saxophone-perfect".  Let's take a look...

Why it's best: For my money this is the best neck strap ever invented.  Period.  It features technology that you don't find on any other strap, materials you don't find on other straps, and durability you don't find with any other strap. The deJacques Saxophone S... Read Full Reviewtrap is made of a high-density fabric that can sustain up to 110 lbs of pressure.  That's pretty nice when even a Baritone Saxophone tops out at about 30 lbs.

The slide NEVER slips and the little plastic slider that they use is the easiest to pull in the industry.  Fine adjustments to your neck strap can be made in seconds without a hassle.

The cord itself is strong and thick and it is hand sewn into the strap itself which is made a nice fabric that hugs your neck instead of digging into it.

This strap that never slips, doesn't hurt your neck, and holds up 3 times the weight or a Bari Sax is the smartest and finest in the woodwind world.  The price tag may shock you (~$95) but you'll never have to buy another strap.  Ever.  Enjoy!

The thin and un-obtrusive cord runs right in a slider that is almost unbeatable.  The slider is in a little plastic circle that you can easily grasp and move up and down.  Find adjustments can be made quickly but we cannot promise that it will not slip (as with all other Sax Straps.)

The hook that is provided is either a plastic closing hook or a metal "question mark" hook.  You can choose the plastic hook if you want the assurance of knowing that the only way the strap is coming is if you take it off yourself.  However, for fast movement you may want the metal hook that you just pop off with your thumb.  This requires little effort and still keeps the Sax secure on your neck. Why it's a best pick: If you're the kind of person who needs a little more comfort, a little more padding, a little more security on your neck then you might want to tune in to the Neotech Soft Strap.  Neotech's Soft Strap has the most padding in the industry and it "pillows" your ... The slide is designed with a textured grip on either side that is easy to pull and even easier to push.  You can make adjustments easily and the fabric cord is thick and durable.

Why it's a best pick: Ray Hyman Straps are the simplest of straps but they pack a big punch and provide security and ease of use.  The Hyman Sax Straps are sleek and subtle but they are durable and stable.  The Hyman Sax Strap is made of a polyester/nylon blend that is very strong and s... Read Full Reviewits well on your neck.  Because of the blended fabric that neck strap is slick to the touch and it sits well on your neck.  Imagine a thick silk garment... that's about what the Hyman Strap feels likes.

This simple strap is one cord that meets at a rectangular slider that has stability grips on either side for easy use.  The slider moves easily (although we can't guarantee that it won't slip) it IS very stable.

The simple plastic hook is thick and fits most strap rings tightly for added safety.  The strap is so thin and slim that it fits easily even in the smallest case and it is easily concealed on formal garments so you don't have a huge neck strap sticking out everywhere.

The Hyman Strap looks like it would put tension on your neck but the thin is sleek and easy to the touch.  It doesn't hurt AND it provides security for your Sax? (Oh, and it's cheap!)  That's a deal! See more reviews, photos, prices, and specs

Why it's a best pick: Rico rounds out the list by mimicking our #1 strap as closely as possible. Rico Sax Straps (formerly Planet Waves) offer a soft and silky fabric on your neck, a think and light cord, an easy-to-use slider, and a tortuously curving hook that keeps your Sax secure.
