Best of the Big Boy Pickup Trucks

So, you're thinking about purchasing a big pickup truck? Despite gas prices fluctuating like crazy and an apparent move to smaller, lighter and more fuel efficient vehicles, pickups remain popular and for good reason – these kinds of trucks are true multi-purpose vehicles – outfit them in a certain way and you can carry wood or gravel, pull a boat or camper, bring along a work crew or your family, and do so much more with them.

The largest trucks have been sales leaders for years and will likely continue to remain popular for the long term. Some of the engine offerings may change, but the new trucks you see on the road today will continue to be sold because that is what customers want and they remain among the most profitable vehicles sold by manufacturers.

There are six large trucks for consumers to consider with each meriting a mention on this “best of” list (with Chevy/GMC mentioned jointly). Truck owners are notoriously brand loyal so I don't expect the runner-up finishers to be happy with my choice of the top truck. Then again the Dodge, Ford, Chevy/GMC models are in a virtual dead heat, with the Toyota model breathing hard on their bumpers. Nissan is a full step behind for the simple reason of an important model omission, but it too has plenty to offer buyers.

Just so you know, comparing pickup trucks is a nearly impossible to do, with dozens of model configurations and trim lines to consider, so your best bet is to narrow down the type of truck you want and then to compare from there.
