General Douglas MacArthur once famously said: "In war there is no substitute for victory." His iconic quote could easily be applied to the water gun wars which have raged from one generation of youth to the next. We've all been on the frontline at some point in our lives, the enemy rearing its formidable head in the guise of siblings, best friends, neighbors, and even our own parents. While the battles remain the same, the technology has changed dramatically over time. Pump-action and battery-powered water guns have been designed to hold exponentially more liquid ammunition and built with the capacity of unleashing a larger payload than ever before.
Pistols, rifles, and even crossbows are the preferred weapons of choice in today's water-logged skirmishes, with modern guns able to drench your opponent twice over. Everyone knows that the best way to maintain peace is through superior firepower and these five best picks go a long way to proving that adage, each one chosen for this list based upon the following criteria including their large water reservoir capacities, high water pressure to ensure great stream distance and payload, fast water reloading capabilities, and exterior durability to endure tough play.
Buzz Bee Toys has an entire arsenal of water blasters under the Water Warriors moniker, but their newest, the Waterlord, tops them all in terms of pressurized power. This is simply the most powerful water weapon that the company offers at the moment. New for 2015, this one tops even the Colossus 2 and the Python 2 for hydro-superiority. Read Full Review
Buzz Bee seems to have identified all of the greatest features of every water gun they've produced up until now and then combined them all into one super weapon. The muzzle is equipped with a triple nozzle selector that offers two stream settings and one quadruple stream burst setting. Forward mounted slide pump moves smoothly with a sure grip and only a minimal amount of pumps to get this water gun primed for battle. The more you pump, the more power you get, but when things are getting hairy out there, you can feel confident knowing you'll have adequate payload in the clutch. The pressure chamber is where this one really stands out above the rest, which uses a rubber diaphragm which can propel a 42 foot stream at full charge.
Size does matter and this Super Soaker from Nerf is the biggest one yet. The Lightning Storm water gun is a battery-operated monster featuring a 35 ounce water drum for aggressive offense and a shield to defend you from any attackers. The motorized trigger mechanism makes it the perfect weapon for rapid-fire assaults and storming the enemy clubhouse. Read Full Review
The largest weapon in Nerf's Super Soaker line of water guns is the Lightning Storm. With a capacity to hold 35 ounces of water, it has a potent nozzle that sprays a strong and steady stream of liquid ordnance at your foes. The motorized pump runs on four AA batteries so there's no manual pumping needed, giving you constant firing ability without pausing between shots. A word of warning however, it's not all that quiet when firing so it’s not built for stealth but rather for all-out assault on enemy strong points. The Lightning Storm has a firing range of approximately 25 feet so your offensive strategy won't require close quarter engagement. The gun comes with a removable shoulder stock to assist in those long-range attacks if necessary and it looks really cool too.
The Aqua Zooka is one of those double-edged sword type of products in that there are major benefits to owning one, with one liability under certain conditions. The Aqua Zooka offers ease of use and a massive output of water, but the siphoning pump system needs a large body of water nearby to make this water gun truly effective. Read Full Review
The Aqua Zooka fires a powerful 60 foot dual stream which is expelled as you push the handle in, launching a flood of liquid firepower at your opponent. However, when you're out of ammo you have to dip the nozzle into the water and pull back on the handle again to siphon more liquid into the chamber. So while you've got good distance and two streams going at the same time, you also need a supply of water nearby if you're going to do any damage. So, when the enemy brings the fight to the pool, you'll be ready but if not, you might need to get creative with your ammunition.
The Nerf Super Soaker Scatter Blast gun hits the target with not one, but four possible nozzle choices in an all-out attack of water that’s nothing short of relentless. You don't even need to aim that well to hit your intended marks either. To paraphrase Ordell Robbie from the movie Jackie Brown, when you absolutely, positively have to wipe out everybody in the room accept no substitute...this gun will soak them just fine. As its name implies, Switch Shot offers a switchable muzzle with four nozzle settings, each with a distinct and effective method of water delivery. There's the jet stream option which shoots one hard stream of water, the triple shot which is comprised of three streams that spread out, the scatter shot which ups the amount of water to five streams at one time, and the atomizer which sprays water in a devastating hail of fine droplets. This is a beautifully designed water blaster featuring a thick, stocky grip and wide open trigger area, although this gun doesn’t use a trigger to fire. This water gun uses a slide pump which must be engaged to pull water from the reservoir and fired. That reservoir resides in a banana-style clip which holds 19 ounces of water every time you reload.
In this day and age, even the most modern military forces in the world know that you don't always have to be near the action to do the fighting. Unmanned remote technology has become the way of the future and so it is in the water wars as well. This remote control truck has a powerful water cannon mounted on it so when a sneak attack is the only way to victory, you'll want to call in the Red Freezer. Read Full Review
Carrera is best known for their line of remote control vehicles and aircraft, so when some mad genius slaps a water gun component to the front of one of them, we took notice. The Red Freezer has rolled out a remote truck that can reach speeds of up to 12mph, comes equipped with actual xenon headlamps and brake lights, and has a running time of 40 minutes on a high-powered, rechargeable Li-ion battery. The front cannon on the water-resistant Red Freezer can send a stream up to 19 feet via remote control; once you've delivered your payload, high-tail it with the servo-tronic multi-stage steering capacity, allowing you to get Red Freezer in and out of any hot zone with ease.
