Black & Decker 18 Volt 12" Cordless Grasshog Trimmer/Edger
Why it's best:
This trimmer is light, big, and easy-to-use. It converts to an edger, and has an automatic line feeder that doesn't require bumping it on the ground to advance the string. It's well designed, with ergonomic handles and trigger. Like all electric trimmers, it's quiet, pollution-free, and relatively light-weight.
But what makes it even better is that it comes with an extra battery. Ni-Cads like the one that power this trimmer don't have the capacity and stamina of high-tech Lithium Ion batteries, and require more frequent changing. If you have just one battery this means you have to stop work and recharge. But with the Black & Decker NST2018, you can charge one battery while you're using the other. And at a street price of under $100, this is a great deal.
Manufacturer Description: With an AFS (automatic feed spool) system that uses centrifugal force to automatically advance the line when needed, this 18-volt cordless string trimmer is truly on the cutting edge of gardening tools. Features Groom-n-Edge heads for easy edging and adjustable handles and shafts.

3) does not want a cord to always worry about
4) already has firestorm or B&D 18 volt products (batteries are interchangeable)

Pretty good - but don't get rid of your corded trimmer, April 06 2004
I just bought the B&D NST2018 trimmer along with the NS118 cordless blower. I have a corner lot with long parkways and a lot of sidewalk footage, and have grown tired of dealing with up to 175 feet of extension cables for my corded trimmer and blower. I've had a nice battery-powered mower for severa...read full review
OK replacement for a corded model, June 11 2006

I had a cheap gas weedeater before and I could never get it to start, just ended up with a sore arm from pulling the cord. So I opted for this model. My first impression was that its wimpy. ...read full review
