Expert Review:
Many are finding that Boulder Creek is no longer “the guitar maker you’ve never heard of.” Another of their fine creations is the new ECR1-N12. A classic approach is taken with regards to the woods in use on this model. If you are looking for a strong and snappy top-end, the solid spruce top will take care of that. This is a terrific compliment to the Mahogany back and sides.
The electronics are quire impressive. The AB4-T includes not only your typical ¼” output jack, but also a low-z output that is perfect for recording and live performances. Quite often, I am disappointed by the lack of a mid-range control when it comes to acoustic electric guitars. Fortunately, the ECR1-N12 compliments its high / low EQ controls with a third slider for mid-range frequencies. On top of all that, you’ve got a built-in chromatic tuner that will make between-song tune-ups a snap.
The lack of a traditional sound hole may catch some off-guard. It has been moved to the side closest to the top. This is an interesting design choice, but it also makes for a handsome front look. The ECR1-N12 is a fantastic looking instrument with a big sound. If you are a 12-string player in the market for a new guitar, but looking for something a little different, this one is worth a closer look.
