Why it's a best pick:
Powerful, stylish, and well-priced can pretty much describe the XPS 16 series of Dell notebooks. Evolving from their previous boring designs from 2005-2007, Dell has recently put design aesthetic as an important priority, and has achieved this to great effect with their Studio XPS series of notebooks. With a 16" screen that can have up to a 1920 x 1080 screen - full 1080p - the XPS 16 is larger than the 14.1" or 13" notebooks, so this laptop may not be the best choice for constant travel. Capable of being well-configured with a Core 2 Duo P8600, an ATI HD 3670M, 4GB of DDR3 memory, and the usual suite of wireless, optical drives, and software, the XPS 16 certainly is a platform for a notebook with a plentiful amount of computing horsepower. The XPS 16 can also be well budgeted to slightly over $1,000 for those back-to-school shoppers. While it may not be the best for travel or battery life, the XPS 16 is no doubt a looker for a laptop, so if that aesthetic appeals to you, the XPS 16 would be a good choice for a powerful, multi-purpose laptop for a reasonable price.
