Denon's new S-Series AV Receivers have been speculated to stand for "savings", thanks to the tremendous amount of value that these models present. The AVR-S700W costs around $450 at online retailers and although this is not the cheapest you can buy (that honor goes to the AVR-S500BT), it offers a better overall package, making great bang for your buck.

While last year's equivalent model featured a 5.1-channel configuration, the AVR-S700W offers 7.2-channels (meaning you can hook up a second subwoofer), with a very stout 165 watts per channel. Last year's models tended to be a bit lacking in terms of features, something that Denon has addressed for 2014. The AVR-S700W features built-in WiFi, Bluetooth, and AirPlay, while also offering DLNA capability and plenty of streaming options. Connectivity is solid, with 6 HDMI inputs, 1 HDMI output, a single USB port at the front, two composite video inputs, and a single composite output.

It's nice to see that the AVR-S700W includes HDMI 2.0 at this price, which means that your receiver will be able to keep up as technology progresses. 4K passthrough and upscaling are also included. Setup is fairly simple, with Denon's Setup Assistant and Audyssey MultEQ calibration. This affordable choice offers just about everything you could want from a basic and budget-friendly AV Receiver.Rating: 4.5/5
