DieHard North Car Battery

DieHard North Car Battery Add to MyBests

Expert Review

Granted, DieHard batteries are the brand-name products and feature superior performance compared to the budget options. However, this comes at a price literally. While still relatively affordable, DieHard batteries do not offer substantial increases in performance until you start looking at the DieHard Gold series. Even so, the reliability and the amp ratings make these batteries an excellent buy. You can count on the DieHard battery to start your car in extreme temperatures. DieHard batteries are maintenance-free and are covered under a pro-rated replacement warranty, so you can have peace of mind with your investment.Rating: 4/5

I purchased a Diehard battery in May 2007 after the one that I had in the car originally failed before the warranty period was over. Unfortunately, I did not have the details on the exact purchase date, so I ended up paying nearly full price because they prorated the battery based on its manufacture date, not the purchase date.Fast foward to July 2010 - the battery I bought in May 2007 is dead...but not to fear, I have a 3 year full warranty and 5 year limited warranty AND I have all my purchase date information. It has only been 3 years and 2 months, so I did not expect a full replacement, but being only 2 months into the 24 month limited warranty, I would expect my prorated portion to be small, right? NOPE.When it was all said and done, I had to pay $60 for a replacement - $15 of which was for them to install it...what a rip off. The pro-rate calculation is NOT 2 months into a 24 month limited warranty, but rather 3 years and 2 months into a 5 year total warranty. In other words, after 3 years, you are pretty much f*cked.

It is true that these Diehard batteries are cheaper than the other ones. However, they will dieEASY after the first year, especially during the winter time.I purchased a Diehard battery for my car, had a warranty for it from Sears, and when my battery died after the first year, Sears tried telling me that my car was the reason why the battery is not working. They even told me to go have an electrician check out my car, which cost me a considerable amount of money. Of course, there was nothing wrong with my car, it was the DieHard battery. I went back to Sears a few times and they refused to honor the battery warranty. It wasn't until I threatened to sue them that they gave me a new DieHard battery and told me to "not come back".Then, after half a year, the battery started leaking acid. I then had no choice but to throw away the battery and purchase a new one at the Advance Auto Parts store, and that new battery is still working after 2 years. STAY AWAY FROM DIEHARD BATTERIES!
