Review: Remember how the helpful people at the AAA office made up a vacation TripTik for your mom and dad and highlighted areas of known police presence? (Like all of the state of Georgia.) Fast forward to the 21st century. Now the Escort Passport 9500ix includes an updatable database of known photo radar sites and red light cameras and an embedded GPS receiver that warns as you’re approaching a danger zone. You press a button to mark a photo radar hazard not in the database and you’ll be reminded next time you approach that intersection. When you download the latest traffic alerts via your PC and USB cable, your warnings get added to the community of information that others can download. Plus the 9500ix is pretty good on its own as traditional radar detector. Some governments don’t like this kind of information sharing; others (including in Europe), publicize the location of photo radar so you’ll know to slow down. That’s our kind of town fathers. And imagine: Traffic safety matters more than ticket revenue. Here’s a statistic you won’t hear from the municipal treasurer: Red light cameras tend to reduce the number of severe T-bone collisions, of which there aren’t many, at the cost of many more rear-end collisions as the guy in front slams on the brakes to avoid triggering the red light camera, you plow into him, and get a ticket for following too closely. It’s revenue either way.

I agree. My $129 cobra gives about the same warning in K, Ka and X.
Escort advertizes in all the expensive print media. You are paying for their ads and the brand name.

The mags that rate them so highly are filled with their advertising. What would you expect them to say? The results can be skewed by a mere centimeter in positioning within the cabin.

Caveat Emptor.

If you want to 'invest' try the V1, from what I've heard.
Of course, the best solution is to drive at the speed limit - you will actually get there, promise!

This detector is a joke not worth the money please stay clear of it Escort should be a shamed of itself for charging $500 for this thing.

The 9500ix is no better than a affordable whistler I tested this detector against a Whistler Xtr-695 and more than not it alerted before or at the same time the 9500ix did. save your money if you want a real detector get a V1.
