    Expert Review

The Google Nexus 6P holds up well to comparable devices from other manufacturers with regards to its overall performance and camera capability in addition to blazing new ground with the inclusion of a USB-C as its connector. Some Android users crave (or require) a pure experience without overlays skins; these individuals usually seek out Google’s Nexus devices, which originally started as reference devices for developers but they’ve slowly developed a fan base all their own.

The phone holds its own when it comes to its feature set, with a fingerprint scanner and a 12 megapixel camera that also shoots 4K video. However, what will be of most interest to those who live on the bleeding edge is the inclusion of a USB-C port, one of the first on a smartphone. For fans of a pure Google device, the Nexus 6P is the latest straight, no-chaser Android device, meaning no skins or modifications.

Last year’s Nexus 6 was a phablet built by Motorola. This year, Google released the Nexus 6P which is another phablet that has been tweaked and manufactured by Huawei. At 5.7 inches it’s a little smaller than last year’s 6 but it is available in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB memory capacities. While the 12 megapixel sensor isn’t the biggest you could hope for, it does keep up with what today’s customers are looking for in a premium phone, with good stills and 4K video.

Google is also formally introducing fingerprint security in its phones with Android 6.0 "Marshmallow" with Nexus Imprint. Users of the phone report this feature (at least on the Nexus 6P) is fast and responsive. However, what might be the biggest news for the device might be what many people tend to overlook, namely the power and data connector. The Nexus 6P includes a USB-C port for both those duties and it might be the most popular phone to date to feature the new connector. USB-C allows for two-way power delivery, meaning it could be charged like a regular cell phone, or it could be used to charge other USB-C-equipped devices, along with fast 5Gbps data speeds.Rating: 4.5/5
