JVC Everio GZ-R10 Quad-Proof Full HD Camcorder
JVC has ruggedized their traditional camcorder making it Quad-Proof against dust, water, freeze, and shock. Unlike most action or rugged cameras, it looks just like a normal camcorder with a few quirks. To keep this camera safe, there’s a back flap to protect some of the inputs like the HDMI port and SD card. The battery is also built-in and has to be charged with a micro USB cable. Both of these are a little annoying, but it is the tradeoff for being able to be submerged up to 16.4 feet of water.
A 3 LCD Touchscreen provides clear images and serviceable most of the time but it’s a little clunky and won’t work well when wet. Easy access record/zoom function buttons on the camera body take care of most of the business while you’re shooting. Although there’s no internal memory on the R10, it records onto the very cheap SD/SDHC/SDXC memory card family (The R70 has 32 GB of internal storage if needed). A 40x optical zoom gets some good long range shots, the time-lapse is fun to play with, and a Super LoLux mode helps if you’re in darker locations. The R10 is probably not for everyone, but it delivers action camera toughness and HD quality video.
