Marantz NR1504 Slim Line 5.1 Network Receiver
The NR1504 can be easily distinguished from other AV receivers by a simple glance since the slim design means many consumers may mistake it for a Blu-ray player instead. All said, this is still an impressive 5.1-channel AV receiver from Marantz. The slim cabinet requires low-profile amplifiers, meaning power output is limited to 50 watts per channel. While this seems low on paper, real-world performance suggests otherwise, with superb sound quality at all volume levels.
Despite the compact dimensions, the NR1504 offers a wide range of connectivity options. There are 6 HDMI inputs, which is more than most other five channel receivers on the market. Analog video accommodations include three composite video inputs, but there are no component video inputs anywhere. The Ethernet port provides the network access needed to enable Apple AirPlay, and Marantz offers a Bluetooth adapter if you prefer a wireless connection.
While the $500 price tag is expensive for a five channel receiver, the slim design and added connectivity options add their own value to the equation.
