Audiophiles Rejoice! Best Sounding Receiver for the dollar, bar none!, January 2, 2009

Dolby TrueHD, DTS Master, and any of the uncompressed audio sound frickin' spectacular. I did some switching between these and compressed and it is amazing how open and engulfing the sound of the lossless codecs are compared to the legacy formats.

Music has never sounded better through my Energy Reference Connoisseur 50's either. Marantz has this nailed. The sound is incredibly smooth from the deepest bottom end to the very top of the crispest highs. I was listening to a master recording of Muddy Waters on gold cd and it was spectacular. It's almost as if the sound was beyond the speakers to the point where they were non-existent and all that was left was the music. Even my brother was impressed and this coming from a guy who runs an Ayre cd player, McIntosh pre-amp, Bryston amp and Veritas speakers. He said, and I quote, "It's amazing how far receivers have come". He went on to mention that this is probably part of a trickle down effect from Marantz's Reference Series audio line as he mentioned they have been getting some praise from the audiophile sector.

So if anyone is looking for what in my opinion is the best sounding receiver in this price range (or even several hundred above), I would have to say this is it. It SEVERELY outperforms my outgoing Denon 3805, and put to shame the Pioneer Elite sc-05 for sound quality according to my ears. No doubt the Best Bang for the buck.

Excellent Quality A/V Receiver, January 21, 2009

I purchased this receiver in order to upgrade to HDMI.

Sound quality as well as video quality were prime concerns. I cannot say the SR6003 sounds better than my NAD T762 it is replacing in my rack, but it sounds terrific and with the newest sound codecs it certainly can handle the newest blu-ray disc soundtracks.

The remote control is well thought out and better than most I have seen. I do wish that the silver cabinet for the SR6003 was more widely available.

The con to me are it is not THX ceritfied. I'm well aware that some audiophile reviewers think this is not a big deal, but others, and I'm in this category, believe that THX certification does guarantee a base level for sound quality. At this price point, considering the competition, THX certification should have been a priority.

All in all I'm very happy with this receiver and I would certainly recommend it over the more common brands readily available in the US. minimize

I have had the 6003 for the last three weeks. I upgraded from the HK avr 7200. I am very pleased with the sound quality and the switching. I set up the unit with hdmi cables and did not have to use a dozen calbles I had previously connected to the HK. I set the unit up using the Audyssey mike and auto set up. Glad I ponied up the cash for this receiver. I researched quite a few and this one got some really good reviews from the experts. Was easy to set up and looks and sounds great. Plenty of inputs for me, although that is the only complaint that any of the pro reviewers had on this receiver. 3 hdmi inputs. 2 hdmi outs. enough for me for sure. My only complaint is that i wanted to hook up the main speakers in a bi-amp configuration, where you have 2 pairs of speaker wire running to each speaker, which you can do, BUT doing so will use the rear surround channel outputs essentially making this a 5.1 receiver instead of a 7.1 surround system. I would have liked to been able to use the 'b-speakers' outputs for the extra connections but oh well. Probably not much of a diference in sound quality anyways. Worth the money IMO. minimize

Great Receiver! Not so great remote..., November 10, 2009

I have used this receiver for two months now, and I love it! It has great sound quality, and plenty of power for my Aperion Audio Intimus 4T Grand speakers. With my new set up, it's like watching all of my favorite movies for the first time. The Marantz SR6003 also brings out a lot of new detail from my music.

So far I only have one complaint, the remote control. The remote itself has a great look and feel, but the Source button too closely resembles the Volume button. The remote also has universal remote capabilities, but the button assignment for the other devices does not feel natural. However, I would still recommend this receiver for everyone! minimize
