Expert Review:
The Netgear has the same number of ports as the TRENDnet TEG-S80G (8 in total), but it is far more expensive. There is a good reason for that. The Netgear GS108T-100NAS is a Smart switch, which means that it includes a limited number of Ethernet management features. Because Smart management is available, it is possible to set up Virtual LANs, configure port speed, and adjust other network management settings. While home users virtually never need these features, some business users will require them.
The Netgear GS108T-100NAS has many other features, as well. Jumbo Frames are supported, up to 8,000 MAC addresses can be stored, and the buffer memory is up to 128KB per unit. Overall, this is feature-stuffed switch, and it is still a good value despite the fact that it costs much more than pedestrian routers intended for basic use.
