Why it's best:
Onkyo’s audio engineers have a great reputation among audiophiles for their innate ability to design sublime audio components for the general public that the common consumer can actually afford.

With the development of the TX-8255 stereo receiver, Onkyo has gone further with the affordability concept than I had even thought possible. This pure 2-channel audio beauty features 5 audio inputs, wide range amplifier technology, 4 ohms of dynamic power at 105 watts per channel and enhanced iPod compatibility.

This hefty but sleek receiver weighs in at a solid 16.5 pounds, and the reinforced chassis helps eliminate those pesky vibrations that will cause a small degree of distortion that comes with less sturdily designed stereo receivers.

The TX-8255 delivers crisp high-end audio when you hook up decent bookshelf or floor standing speakers to the stereo receiver, along with brilliant low-end audio, with or without an attached subwoofer.

Without a doubt, Onkyo has created an excellent audio component alternative to the high price of purchasing a high-end stereo receiver, for only a fraction of the cost, as this receiver retails for under $300.

Manufacturer Description: While new technologies come and go, the fundamentals of competent receiver design remain constant. It is best to think of it in simple terms: a power supply, an input stage, a driver stage, and an output stage that all combine to amplify signals without any loss in quality. The current that actually drives the loudspeakers comes from a power source via the receiver's...read full description

Recieved 5 StarsA True Best Buy..., September 27, 2008

I've wondered at times about some of the glowing reviews I've read online over the years for various products: Are these real folks or PR plants from manufacturers? (Hey, it happens all the time in the hotel biz.)

So... if you share my suspicions, no, despite what follows, I don't work for Onkyo in any way shape or form--but I have...read full review

Recieved 5 StarsNo frills, good sound, September 13, 2008

This receiver replaced a Sony STR 397 that had a continuous static problem that was never fixed. I gave up on the Sony and bought the Onkyo. I use it to power two Polk tower speakers hooked up to my HDTV and DVD player.

The receiver is basic, no frills. Bass, treble and balance controls are on the front panel. There is no loudness ...read full review

Recieved 5 StarsThe amazing invisible amp., October 31, 2008

I bought this receiver to replace a fine amp, preamp combo that was 25 years old and had served me well (a NAD). So this one has a tuner built in - oh well. I'll almost never play the radio. But this unit is just amazing. It impresses me as being totally transparent. There is no noise, no hum, no nothing to let me know that I'm listening to a cd,...read full review

Recieved 5 StarsA Very Good Two Channel Receiver, January 9, 2009

I would like to offer my own personal opinion regarding my purchase and use of the Onkyo Receiver model TX 8255. Right off the top I must admit that I am more pleased with this receiver than I have ever been with any other receiver I have owned. I go back to the days of tube type components and I have owned a couple of the old style Marantz...read full review

Recieved 5 StarsGreat Basic Stereo Receiver , January 4, 2009

I got this for my parents for xmas, to replace their old Sansui that finally gave up the ghost. I hooked it up New Years day, and was amazed with the sound/power this unit puts out. I have a DE898 Sony stereo that cost about 2x last year, and with the same speakers does not sound anywhere near as clear or crisp. I tried both Polk monitor, and Bose ...read full review
