Onkyo TX-NR5009 9.2-Channel A/V Receiver
The TX-NR5009 may not carry a 'boutique' brand name, but Onkyo's flagship receiver is an outstanding example of what a good 'high-end' AV receiver should be. This 9.2-channel receiver comes with just about every feature available on current Onkyo receivers, and tops it off with a stout 145 watts per channel and audiophile-grade output. Low noise and nearly non-existent distortion sets the TX-NR5009 apart from lesser receivers, showcasing the benefits of discrete circuitry. The TX-NR5009 carries THX Ultra2 Plus certification, and can be set up to work in any home theater setup thanks to the included Audyssey DSX self-calibration software. The slick-looking front panel hides a drop-down door which reveals physical controls and a set of inputs, while the back houses a dizzying array of color-coded and labeled ports. The TX-NR5009 ensures that connectivity is never an issue, with 8 HDMI inputs (with dual HDMI outputs), 3 component video inputs, 4 S-Video inputs, 5 composite video inputs, and a phono input. An ethernet port enables network connectivity, which allows streaming from various online sources such as Pandora, Spotify, Rhapsody, and others. The on-board video processor provides upconversion to 1080p as well as 4K, which allows older standard-definition sources to look decent on a modern HDTV. The TX-NR5009 is also custom installation-friendly, thanks to the RS-232 port and 'Onkyo RI' system. While there are cheaper units than the TX-NR5009, this Onkyo receiver is a great choice if connectivity, features, and performance are all top priorities.
