Why it's a best pick:
One of the best values in high-end receivers, the Onkyo TX-SR906 packs the performance and features found on much more expensive receivers. This THX Ultra 2 Certified receiver delivers an impressive 145 WPC and includes the Silicon Optix Reon-VX HQV video processor for upconverting analog sources to 1080p. The Onkyo is absolutely feature packed with 4 HDMI inputs and 2 outputs, a built-in HD Radio tuner, an Ethernet port for streaming music from your PC and a front-panel USB port. It also supports decoding for the newer high-resolution soundtracks including Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio and features the THX volume control technology found on the more expensive RX-Z11. While the TX-SR906 can’t quite match the audio or video performance of the Denon AVR-5308CI or Yamaha RX-Z11, it comes fairly close and sells for thousands less. It’s also easier to setup and calibrate because of the Audyssey Laboratories' MultEQ technology. If you’re looking to save even more money, the Onkyo TX-SR876 offers similar performance but is slightly less powerful (140 watts per channel) and lacks networking features.

Manufacturer Description: Multi-dimensional, superbly crafted, and loaded with impressive specs, the TX-NR906 A/V home network receiver is a true champion for the age. With seemingly endless abilities?including HQV Reon-VX video processing, dual high-def HDMI outputs, Audyssey room correction technologies, and multi-room audio and video distribution?the TX-NR906 leaves no base uncovered. Simply amazing! I must say, this has to be one of the most sophisticated pieces of electronic equipment that I've ever owned. I don't even know where to begin. Did I mention this thing is amazing?

I was running a Bose Lifestyle 48 prior to this, but when I finally decided to make the most of HDMI connections, I shelved the Bose and...read full review

I am using 7.1 channel speakers which combined with this...read full review

An up-to-date and excellent receiver

Pros: While it has almost all current features as of 2008-2009, Onkyo TX-NR906 remains faithful to Onkyo's origin - excellent sound reproduction in stereo or surround. I thought the remote control is very functional and practical in all devices I have tried (TV, Blu-Ray player, DVR, old DVD/CD...read full review

* IN CAPITAL LETTER MY REVISIONS AFTER 3 MONTHS OF TUNNING.
Bought it to replace the great and classic Onkyo TX-DS989 after 8 years of good services. After these 8 years I became a semi audiophile appreciating hi def audio sources such as DVD Audio,SACD and audiophile CDs. I wanted another DS989 with all the new modern features brought by...read full review

Recieved 5 StarsOutstanding Onkyo , January 18, 2009

I was looking for a receiver with all the connections needed to connect it to the world, and this Onkyo has them. I particularly wanted a network connection, HD radio, iRadio and HDMI inputs and outputs, with upwards conversion, plus a 'real' power transformer, which happens to be a torroidal type in this case, and this model featured all of what ...read full review
