Onkyo TX-SR607 7.2-Channel AV Receiver
Why it's a best pick:
The Onkyo TX-SR607 is an update to the popular Onkyo TX-SR606, our former #1 pick. Just like its predecessor, this midrange receiver delivers excellent sound quality and a terrific feature set for the money. It packs a whopping 6 HDMI inputs -- including one on the front panel -- which is extremely impressive for a mid-priced receiver. Setup is very straightforward using the Audyssey 2EQ automatic speaker calibration system and included microphone, and after achieving room-optimized sound, the Onkyo TX-SR607 delivers very impressive audio performance that’s on par with more expensive receivers. It supports decoding of most surround formats including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-Master Audio. It also features Audyssey Dynamic Volume, which helps keep volume levels consistent while watching TV or movies. Though this receiver can upconvert analog sources to 1080i, its video processing is not very impressive. But if most of your components output over HDMI, this won’t be an issue. It also lacks a GUI (found on the Sony STR-DG920), but the menu system is still simply and easy to navigate. Overall, the Onkyo TX-SR607 is a very impressive midrange receiver with terrific sound quality, outstanding HDMI connectivity, and easy setup. It’s available for under $500 online, making it an excellent value.

The Perfect home A/V product for a mid-range price, November 19, 2009
I decided to replace my Denon with this Onkyo. The Denon cost me more than twice as much; I thought I would be disappointed with the Onkyo, but I've had Onkyo receivers in the past, so I thought I'd take the risk and buy this one. I am not disappointed. I can say the sound is clearer, chrisper, and the setup is much easier than with the Denon...read full review

I have been using this reciever for about 6 mo now and love it. Very easy to setup with the on screen menu. The video upscaling works great and the 7.2 sound is incredible. Would highly recommend
Great value and bang for your buck!, November 4, 2009
My Denon AVR 1086 was about 6 years old, at a cost of about $650. The Denon was giving me some issues and the lack of HDMI connectivity made it necessary to upgrade my AVR, especially since I wanted to jump into the Blu-Ray mode. I got this receiver a couple weeks ago and it was remarkably easy to setup; I recall my Denon was not so easy. I...read full review
Just what the doctor ordered., November 4, 2009
Easy setup, sounds great, and I've got expandability to 7.2 channels when I'm ready. The video processing has been a pleasant surprise. Either my eyes are easy to please or the complaints about the upconverting of analog sources was incorrect. Also, the Audyssey room calibration stuff is slick! Pull the mic to the sweet spots, hit Enter, and...read full review
nice receiver, good value, November 3, 2009
I did a bit of research before buying the Onkyo Tx-SR607 7.2-Channel A/V Surround Home Theatre Receiver. This was a replacement of my Denon 7.1 receiver that had been in my HT room for 6 or 7 years. The lack of HDMI ports forced me to look for a new receiver. I had almost bought an Onkyo instead of the Denon back then. The Denon turned out to be...read full review
