Pioneer VSX-1124-K 7.2-Channel Network AV Receiver
Pioneer's VSX-1124-K offers multiple improvements over last year's VSX-1123-K, while maintaining what made the previous model so good. The 7.2-channel configuration and 165 watts per channel power output have remained the same, as has the inclusion of 4K upscaling and passthrough. The impressive ESS Sabre 24-bit digital-to-analog conversion has been added, as well as gapless playback for multiple formats.
Connectivity for smartphones and tablets has been carried over, built-in WiFi, AirPlay support, and DLNA are also included. The VSX-1124-K is only Bluetooth-ready, so Bluetooth streaming would require the purchase of a separate adaptor. This receiver is Roku-ready, and also supports second-zone audio and video.
Connectivity is generous (although scaled down from last year), with seven HDMI 2.0 inputs and two HDMI outputs, as well as one component video input, two composite inputs, and one composite output. Perhaps the most important update to the VSX-1124-K is the new subwoofer EQ; users have been asking Pioneer to include one for years, and it seems they’ve finally listened. While a price tag around $600 might seem fairly steep, the VSX-1124-K offers excellent overall performance, ease-of-use, and plenty of features.
