Pioneer VSX-824 5.2-Channel Network Receiver
Pioneer receivers have an established reputation for outstanding performance. Like last year's VSX-823-K, the new VSX-824-K delivers on this promise of performance while offering a generous amount of features for the price. This 5.2-channel receiver has a strong 140 watts per channel, and numerous features that are both new and those carried over from 2013. While the number of six HDMI inputs has not changed they are now HDMI 2.0, which means they have ability to grow with emerging technology.
Although no component video connectivity is included, there are two composite video inputs. Whereas last year's model depended solely on the Ethernet port for streaming, the VSX-824-K offers built-in WiFi, Bluetooth, AirPlay, and both DLNA and MHL compatibility. As well as being capable of internet streaming, this receiver is Roku Certified; this means that you can plug a Roku Streaming Stick into the MHL-compatible port to access Roku content.
For around $400, the entry-level VSX-824-K offers a lot of performance and features. While it's not the cheapest receiver you could buy, it offers some of the least sacrifices in terms of performance to achieve a relatively low price.
