Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (Madacy)
Why it's a best pick:
Everyone knows the words to the song, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, although we all have different words we like to insert for fun. For example in the final stance, "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer....you'll go down in history!" Our family usually adds the words, "Like George Washington!", but everyone has something different that they like to place there. It's a fun way to make the song fun and unique. What makes the song so special to many, is that it is about a reindeer that is different from all the others because of his red nose. This of course, though, is what makes Rudolph so special and endearing.
An interesting fact behind this song is that it was created by a gentleman named Robert L. May in 1939, as part of his employment with the department store, Montgomery Ward. The song was enjoyed so much, that the actual "Rudolph" character was formed and in 1958 made into a story for Golden Books. Later, in 1964, it was made into an animated television special that is still aired to this day. Rudolph's likeness has since been turned into stuffed animals, collectible dolls, Christmas decorations and ornaments, and much more.

Crediting this collection merely to Burl Ives has probably caused many to bypass it and assume it does not contain the original recordings from the Rankin-Bass tv special performed by all of the artists (not just Ives), when actually it does. These nine tracks are found at the beginning of the cd (...read full review
