Why it's best:
If you're shopping for a Blu-ray player on a $300 budget, the Samsung BD-P1600 Blu-ray player offers the most features for the money. This update to Samsung's popular BD-P1500 features a slimmer design, faster load times, and support for Netflix on-demand movies and Pandora Internet Radio. Picture quality on this player is excellent, and there is also onboard decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD. This player supports Profile 2.0 and BD Live, and firmware updates are easy over the Ethernet or USB port. However, a wireless LAN adapter is not included, so you’ll have to purchase it separately and connect it to the USB port for Wi-Fi connectivity. 7.1 multichannel analog outputs are also missing, so if you have an older receiver without HDMI, you may want to consider a higher-end model.

Manufacturer Description: mmerse yourself in blu-ray brilliance with the BD-P1600 blu-ray player. It delivers the sharpest images possible and highest quality audio. Want more entertainment? You can also stream movies and music with Netflix and Pandora and enjoy special interactive features with BD-Live 2.0. Sleek and ultra-slim, the BD-P1600 is the missing component to your home entertainment...read full description

Recieved 5 StarsGood value player, March 17, 2009

This is a good value for a blu-ray player with the new online features available such as Netflix, Pandora, and BD-Live. It is small and easy to install and setup. I use the HDMI output to my Samsung HDTV and the Optical Digital Audio output to my AV receiver. The Anynet+ feature is convenient which helps the Samsung components work together...read full review

Recieved 5 StarsFinally a FAST stand alone, March 24, 2009

I bought one of these to replace a PS3 because I hated that it looked like a wart in my setup, had a loud fan, and could not bitstream. Finally there is a small blu-ray standalone that is fast, has a great picture and can bitstream advanced audio. It looks great in the rack and the netflix/pandora features are a nice bonus. I won't be missing...read full review

Recieved 3 StarsGood Quality But Noisy, April 15, 2009

This blu-ray player functions well and is reasonably priced. Blu-ray loading takes about 20 seconds. Picture quality is excellent. My only negative comment is that the motor is noisy, which makes for a rather distracting whirring sound - much more noticeable than my standard dvd player - that is ever present in the background. This would be fine...read full review

Recieved 5 StarsExcellent Blu-Ray DVD & Netflix Device, April 5, 2009

I got this unit to replace an aging DVD player, relieve some stress from my PS3 and replace an older Netflix streaming video player. The price point for this unit makes it affordable to anyone wanting to enter the Blu-Ray market for the first time. The additional features such as Netflix make it a no brainer in my opinion. If you are already a...read full review

Recieved 1 StarsDON'T! DON'T! DON'T! DON'T! DON'T!, July 11, 2009

I've never taken the time to write a review for Amazon before; but then, I've never purchased a worse quality product than this player. As I type this, my wife is disconnecting the unit for return to Amazon - FOR THE SECOND TIME IN TWO WEEKS. Yes, that's right. One arrived (super fast delivery by Amazon, I might add), worked briefly, then froze ...read full review
