Poor Samsung service, November 19, 2009

Bought this TV in August 2009 from Best Buy and it worked well for 3 months. Started having flashes of pink when changing channels and eventually vertical lines, like a barcode, appeared over screen. Bought this TV in August 2009 from Best Buy and it worked well for 3 months. Started having flashes of pink when changing channels and eventually vertical lines, like a barcode, appeared over screen. Also would get "ghost" images from previous channels. Called Samsung customer service and they sent a repairman from another state. This took about one week. He replaced the main board and an internal cable -- took only 15 minutes -- and the TV appeared fixed. Exactly 7 days later, the same problem re-occured. I called customer service AGAIN and said I wanted a new TV and they stated their policy is that there is a minimum of 3 service appointments needed before they would even consider product replacement. I wanted to speak with a supervisor but was told that was not possible. Unbelievable!! I told them this doesn't speak well of their customer service. We are again without use of this TV. The repairman called and said he is ordering a whole new screen and another main board but this will take another week or two, which is very aggravating. Incidentally, a friend of ours had problems with his new Samsung TV and had to go through numerous repair attempts, which failed, but eventually got a replacement. Still frustrating.

I did alot of research before purchasing a TV and Samsung seemed to be the top choice for quality. Maybe we just got a lemon and I understand that happens, but Samsung should be more considerate of their customers and replace a TV when needed without making us jump through hoops. So here we sit, unable to use the TV that we paid for, and hoping this next repair works. If not, another call to customer service and probably another "run around". minimize

We ended up with a great deal at Amazon (and with the 'white glove delivery service'), and have been thrilled with this TV ever since. We use it for regular and HD TV, movies ... both Blu-ray and regular DVD, as well as with an X-Box 360 and a Wii. I am constantly amazed at the picture quality. I have never regretted our purchase for a minute (and I often get "buyer's remorse"). I even checked prices for months afterward, and am still very happy with what we paid. I am so happy with the entire experience, that I am considering a second one. The price is a bit lower now, though Samsung obviously has both new 240hz TV's as well as LED TV's out. I'm not so convinced that I would notice improvements to what I already have ... so may end up with 2 LN46B650's in the house. minimize

Manufacturing defect (possibly known but not shared), October 27, 2009

It came on time and undamaged (physically). I (fondly), hooked it up to power and turned it on. It felt fine with just stars on the screen(as expected) and I turned it off. This would have taken a minute or two. I called the Cable guys and got it installed urgently but only to see that after a couple of minutes the TV shows really annoying flickers. I checked everything and the cable guy also tried everything he knew but to no avail. We called Samsung and the call center lady spilled the beans by saying that there is a fault with the video card on this TV model (may be on few sets and not all) which is known to samsung. When I asked her as to why they are still selling the TV without the fix, she had no proper reply. Not only the TV showed flickers, after a few more minutes the entire screen was white with colors floating around. I called Abes Of Maine and they asked me to contact Samsung as they cannot do anything about it. They have a no return / exchange policy on TVs (I have also sent an email and I am awaiting their reply). It has been 3 weeks and Samsung has done nothing about it. I have called them about 10 times now and in the subsequent calls they have denied that there was any preexisting issue with the TV. Well, regardless of if was preexisting or not, samsung service is not professional or courteous. They were not even apologetic about my frustration due to their product.

The return policy of AbesOfMaine for TVs is not customer friendly at all. I cannot comment about the product quality yet but seeing their customer support, I am not going to buy any more samsung products.I can certainly request potential TV buyers to buy TV from stores who have a good return policy (Costco etc.) and avoid buying TV online.

Our case with Samsung is still unresolved. Their engineer showed up and stated that he can possibly fix it but more problems show up later in most of these cases. minimize

Looked around and chose the Samsung. I made the right decision, this TV is great, awesome picture and easy to get to and change settings if you want to. Glad I went with Amazon too, they have the best prices, quick delivery and set up...
