Why it's a best pick:
The Samsung PN50B650 50” plasma combines excellent picture quality with a sleek, ultra-thin 1.2-inch display panel, making it one of the most attractive HDTVs available. This plasma TV has superb performance with nearly flawless color accuracy and very deep black levels, though not quite as deep as Panasonic’s G10 or V10 series plasmas. There are plenty of picture-adjustment settings for tweaking the picture to your liking and the menu system is intuitive and easy to use. Video processing is also very good and the TV can properly handle 1080p/24 sources. This plasma TV also performs very well in brightly-lit rooms, which gives it an edge over the competition. Connectivity is solid with 4 HDMI inputs, 2 component inputs, a PC input, and a composite input, but it’s missing an S-video input. However, this shouldn’t be an issue for most buyers. There’s also an Ethernet port, which can be used for accessing interactive content via Yahoo Widgets and updating the TV’s firmware. As with any plasma, this HDTV is less efficient than comparable LCDs but more efficient than older plasma displays. Overall, the Samsung PN50B650 is an excellent plasma TV that’s only mildly outperformed by Panasonic’s best offerings.

Recieved 5 StarsAWESOME PICTURE!!!!!!!, November 18, 2009

Plasma vs. LCD/LED. There is NO comparison when looking at large 50"+ screens. The black tones and refresh rate are two of the many reasons why I chose plasma. A refresh rate like 120Hz or 240 Hz is only important if it's a LCD or LED. Plasma's refresh rate is so fast that they don't even need to publish it. And a contrast ratio of...read full review

Recieved 5 StarsAwesome image, outstanding value, but not for everyone..., November 17, 2009

Plasmas aren't as bright as LCD's in rooms with lots of ambient light. Great care must be taken (specially in the 1st 200 hours) to prevent burn-in. The screen is more reflective than most. Plasmas are like that.

Know these things going in, run a break-in procedure for the first 100 hours, dim the lights and get ready for what is...read full review

Recieved 5 StarsNice TV, November 16, 2009

There's no doubt that this is a great TV. How great? Well, given that I don't have any other HDTV's, who knows? From what I've read, all you need to do is buy an HDTV and not pay too much attention to all of the details about the TV. This one was pretty cheap for a 50" TV, so it worked out well.

Recieved 5 StarsGreat TV at a great price, November 16, 2009

I tortured over which TV to buy, doing painstaking research in an attempt to get the best value for my money. I checked CNET and PCMag reviews and on both, this TV came out around the top in picture quality. However, the price difference between the Samsung B650 plasma and the TVs it was being compared to (both plasmas and LCDs) was huge -- in...read full review
