Why it's best:
Samsung’s UNB7000 series has an incredibly sleek, ultra-thin design (1.2” thick) and exceptional energy efficiency because of its edge-lit LED backlighting technology. Additionally, this HDTV has solid video processing and features network connectivity that allows you to receive content from Yahoo! and Flickr such as stocks, weather, news, and photo albums. However, there are also some downsides -- most notably, the Samsung UN55B7000 is very expensive yet its image quality can’t match the performance of the best flat-panel HDTVs, including less expensive models such as the Panasonic G10 series. Compared to these HDTVs, the Samsung UN55B7000 does not perform as well in terms of black level performance, off-angle viewing, or uniformity. While black levels are still very deep, there is noticeable backlight fluctuation that hurts overall black level performance.

Though there are some flaws in image quality, it’s still very good overall. Color temperature and primary colors are very accurate, and there are tons of adjustment options to help obtain an optimal picture. For example, Samsung offers five color temperature presets, gamma control, and white balance control. There’s even a custom mode for adjusting the dejudder processing, which works very well.
As far as connectivity, most users will find it sufficient. There are 4 HDMI inputs, a PC (VGA) input, a pair of USB 2.0 ports, and an Ethernet port. Both the USB port and Ethernet ports can be used to upgrade the TV’s firmware, which makes the process very convenient. However, if you have a lot of older devices with analog connections, you may find connectivity limited since there’s only a single component input (which can be converted to accept composite video as well).

Ultimately, your decision to buy this HDTV will come down to what’s most important to you. If design, energy efficiency, and features are top priorities, then the Samsung UB7000 series is nearly impossible to beat. But if you’re looking for the best price/performance ratio, there are better buys out there. Available in 40”, 46” and 55” sizes.

Recieved 2 StarsStick to Plasma, November 14, 2009

Bought this TV and watched it for a few months.

Plasmas still produce a better and smooth picture quality.

I sold this and purchased a Samsung plasma. Much better!

Don't waste your time with LED backliit LCD. It's simply not there yet. Give it a few years.

Recieved 5 StarsAmazing! LED all the way!, November 9, 2009

I waited long enough for a T.V like this to come out. I have holding out on buying a T.V as they are always coming out with newer technology. I am very please with my purchase. I have not played around with the settings but this picture is truly amazing. My dad had an older Samsung and he was amazed how the picture has changed since he purchased ...read full review

Recieved 5 StarsOMG!, November 6, 2009

First, let me say, this is not my first big screen HDTV. In fact, this is replacing a 62 inch DLP. So I wasn't expecting to be WOW'd by this TV... but I was. I don't have a way to compare the DLP and LCD side by side -- the DLP is dead. But I don't recall the DLP's image being as clear and vivid as this image. The DLP was able to display...read full review

Recieved 5 StarsBeautiful TV, great picture, November 6, 2009

I'm not an audiophile, but in my humble opinion, this is a great TV. The picture is stunning. My son and I just watch the World Series on it, and never once lost the ball in the picture due to slow frame refresh or the less-than-240 MHz rate of 120. Nor have I seen any of the issues referenced by others regarding the 8000 series and issues with ...read full review

Recieved 5 StarsGreat TV, October 20, 2009

This is a great TV. There are a few minor issues, first the viewing angle is not the best, but I always have the best seat so not an issue. The second issue is there is minor bleed through in the four corners from the lights but you have to look for it to see it. It needs some adjustments out of the box to make it look good and get rid of the...read full review
