Why it's a best pick:
Samsung’s UB55B8000 is the company’s higher end edge-lit LED LCD TV, combining excellent performance with an ultra-sleek, ultra-thin design. The large 55” screen is ideal for friends and family gathering in the living room to watch Sunday games. Though not perfect, image quality is very good with deep black levels and accurate colors, and there are plenty of adjustable settings to dial in an optimal picture. This HDTV also has very good video processing and custom mode for adjusting the dejudder processing, which works very well. 240Hz processing and 2ms response time, both step-up features of the 8000 series, improve motion performance while watching fast-motion sequences such as those in sports programs. The B8000 series also boasts internet connectivity, which provides that allows you to receive content from Yahoo! and Flickr such as stocks, weather, news, and photo albums. Input connectivity is solid with 4 HDMI inputs, a PC (VGA) input, a pair of USB 2.0 ports, and an Ethernet port.

Overall, the UN55B8000 is an excellent HDTV that performs as well as it looks. And despite its large screen size, this set is very energy efficient thanks to its LED technology, which should help keep the power bill down. The only drawback is its price, and you can undoubtedly find better performing plasma HDTVs for a lower price. But with its 55” screen, excellent color accuracy, and great motion performance, the Samsung UN55B8000 is definitely one of the best HDTVs for watching sports.

Recieved 5 StarsStartling clarity, detail, and color, May 31, 2009

Had my Samsung UN55B8000 TV a couple of weeks now. It has more than lived up to the hype. Hooked it up and put on a blu-ray disk. Even the delivery guy's jaw dropped, and he's delivered/set up hundreds of TVs.

TV is only inch and half thick and only weighs 60 pounds or so.

In fact, it is sometimes almost too good. When...read full review

Recieved 5 StarsPicture Quality and Dynamic Contrast are the next best thing to 3D, May 18, 2009

Not perfect, but it's the closest thing I've seen so far. Really deserves 4 1/2 stars instead of 5 due to the lack of a couple convenience features missing from the remote, and the limited number of non HDMI inputs. The picture quality, light weight, reduced power use, and thin cabinet are just terrific. The remote takes a couple hours to really...read full review

Recieved 2 StarsBeware of uneven backlight, July 5, 2009

I bought this TV because the overall picture quality is good and it's unbelievably thin. However, there are some inherent problems with the set which are driving me nuts.

The backlight is extremely uneven at the corners. In dark scenes (like credits, or the entirety of letter-boxed movies) you will see little searchlights coming from ...read full review

Recieved 4 StarsVery good but not perfect, July 26, 2009

Clarity and colors are stunning. It literally makes everything you watch look like it was filmed with a consumer grade camcorder rather than pro grade cameras. This TV makes things look like they are happening in front of you in your very own room. You see every strand of hair, every wrinkle, every mole and blemish on faces. You have to see it to...read full review

Recieved 5 StarsWOW!, September 11, 2009

I have owned Sony televisions exclusively for the past 30 years. I was in the market for a new TV to replace my older Sony 50" Grand WEGA LCD projection set. I always keep up with new technologies in consumer electronics and knew that LED backlighting was the way to go. One day, I visited Best Buy to see the new Sony models. I was particularly...read full review
