Best Potato Ricer

If you've had it with a rusting potato masher or tired of the lumps, you would greatly benefit from owning a potato ricer. These wonderful tools allow you to process potatoes and soft veggies or fruits into a smooth, lump free texture. Many people rely on mixers to remove to smooth out potatoes, but this can result in over mixed, glue like results. Some things I was looking for in these picks were sturdiness and if they could hold at least 1/2 cups. These five picks represent the best on the market that not only meet my criteria, but also offer superior performance.

Norpro Deluxe Jumbo Ricer

Now for the serious cook who prepares in large volume, this is a perfect potato ricer. This Norpro Deluxe Jumbo Ricer can hold up to 3 cups. This is my favorite because it always more flexibility and and has a comfortable handle. Make a little or make a lot, it is great for fixing more than just mashed potatoes. You can prepare spaetzle, homemade apple sauce and a host of other vegetable mashes. It is constructed with cast iron aluminum that has a stainless steel hopper. The soft handle makes it comfortable to use and rubber insets that easily grip the side of the bowl. Hand washing is preferred.

Chef'n FreshForce Potato Ricer Press

This potato ricer has a unique feature. The FreshForce™ Potato Ricer has an innovative dual gear-mechanism that makes the pressing power of this ricer greater than most. Once you place your potato or baked or boiled fruits or veggies into the chamber, it will smoothly push your food through. Unlike other ricers, this one simply has one removable mesh basket as opposed to screens. It doesn't have the versatility in terms of textures because it only has a basket instead of two screens. However, the super comfortable handle makes pressing easy especially for those who suffer from hand fatigue. The basket can be hand washed and the rest of the unit is top rack, dishwasher safe.

It also has internal storage for the second disk and a convenient pull out clips that allows it to sit on the edge of the bowl. The ricer has the capacity to hold two medium potatoes. Although it is dishwasher safe, hand washing and air drying are preferred.
